Detour to Sequoia National Park.
Tue, May 06, 2014 | travelIt was a Tuesday night. Late. (Well, for me.) Maybe like 10pm. We were about to go to sleep and I rolled over and said, “What if we packed up and went to Sequoia tomorrow?!” We had to be in Santa Barbara on Saturday for a wedding and would have driven up Friday anyway. Why not make a little trip out of it. My baby cakes is always up for anything and he okayed the idea and then we got to Googling drive times, campsites, etc. We did this for just a few minutes and then decided it would be more fun if we winged it. After a good 6 hours of blasting tunes, doing duets and one Panda Express pitstop, we finally made it to Three Rivers, the last little town right outside of Sequoia National Park.
We camped in the car, with the back door open. Not too shabby with a little foam mattress and lots of blankets. No bugs and no bears. Phew. The next 10 hours are what you see below. It would have been sweet to stay longer, but sometimes you just need an intense little jolt of life to get the blood pumping again. At about 7pm on Thursday we drove down the same winding roads we’d climbed that morning. It was the best detour I’ve ever taken.
